Travelling abroad from Estonia: Israel

Since the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was signed, the security situation in the country has stabilised, and airlines have resumed their flights. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges travellers to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of local authorities if travelling to areas around Gaza or to regions bordering Lebanon and Syria. It is advised to avoid travel to the West Bank. Travelling to Gaza is not possible.

The risk of missile attacks in the country is low, but we recommend all incoming travellers to familiarise themselves with the safety guidelines.

Israel uses the Iron Dome for its air defence, but always be aware that in the event of a missile threat, sirens are activated in the area. When you hear a siren, immediately move to a shelter or indoor safe room, where you should stay for at least 10 minutes after the siren has stopped. If you do not know where the nearest shelter is, go inside the building and look for a windowless stairwell or basement. If there are no buildings in the area, get down and cover your head with your hands. If you are travelling by car, stop the car safely and enter the nearest building or lie down and wait for 10 minutes.

We encourage those in the country to download the Tzofar – Red Alert mobile app, which sends real-time notifications about missile attacks. See also crisis response guidelines in English.  For further information, we also advise to get acquainted with the civil protection website of Israel (available in the country).

Estonian citizens who are staying in Israel for a short period are advised to register their stay on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
